King Edward Mine Cafe

Croust Hut History

The café is in the conserved Assay Office building of King Edward Mine. The original function of the building is represented both in the prize-winning sensitive restoration of the building and with information panels and images from the early years of the twentieth century.

The creation of the Croust Hut café was part of the King Edward Mine Museum Redevelopment Project and we are very grateful to the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development for their contribution towards the fit out of the café’s kitchen.

What Our Visitors Say About Us

"Exceeded expectations
Just the right mix - a guided tour of the site, then time to look at the exhibits, then a guided tour of the tin extraction machinery. While other sites concentrate on what happened underground, here we got a real sense of the way that mining affected lives and the landscape on the surface."
"Fascinating
If you've ever wanted to know how miners separate 1 ton of tin ore from 140 tons of waste rock this is the place to go. There is a massive display of mining equipment and knowledgeable guides to tell you how it was used and demonstrate some of it. An excellent visit for anyone interested in the mining industry.
